PS5 DualSense Controller: 7 NEW Features You Need To Know

Despite radio silence on the final design and official launch specifics of Sony's PS5 console, the company have now lifted the lid on the controller you'll be spending the next few years getting to grips with.

Now controller designs have always been as important as what's inside their respective console - make only minor adjustments and critics will say you're not pushing the boat out enough. Yet try to evolve and change things too much and you risk alienating many of your core fan-base.

With fickle gamers wanting as much from their joypads as the behemoths they control, everything HAS to be right - that includes the design, the functionality and the ergonomics. With this in mind, the DualSense does look to be a fairly significant departure from the DualShock name, with some major new features to tempt us with.

Let's take a closer look under the hood of the brand new controller that's linked to Sony's fifth generational gaming console.

Like the DualShocks before it, the DualSense makes use of a rechargeable battery to power it.

Sony claims that the new battery life is 'strong', but neglected to provide any comparisons. We certainly hope it provides a longer time in-between charges compared to the DualShock's lacklustre effort.

However, with the new haptic feedback, adaptive triggers and in-built microphone, Sony have an uphill battle in that area.

What is welcome is that Sony are moving with the times and updating their charger ports to the USB C standard. This means you're able to plug in a charging cable easily without having to flip it to the correct side, unlike the USB micro version.

Promisingly, it could also mean that the DualSense is able to support fast charging, so after an intense and long gaming session, you're ready to go again much sooner. Again, this remains to be confirmed.
