Despite Sony heavily promoting the DualSense and thundering forward with messaging around "believing in generations", the system does recognise DualShock pads from the PS4.

The stickler is that they only then work on PS4 games, but this does mean you can enjoy a variety of boosted PS4 titles through backwards compatibility, and they play better than ever.

It remains to be seen whether DualShock functionality will simply disappear from titles as they're upgraded with more substantial PS5 patches, but for now, any DualShock 4 will let you enjoy multiplayer on older titles.
