PS5: What The Reveal CONFIRMS About Next-Gen Gaming
3. Physical Media Is Still A Thing
For those worried about the focus on digital media, fear not! It's already been confirmed that the PS5 will support discs.
This makes things a bit more hopeful for the other consoles in the next-generation, too. Although we're confident that digital releases will get more and more attention in the next couple of years, disks are never going to be gone completely.
With Sony confirming that they'll support physical media, Microsoft surely wouldn't let themselves be at such a disadvantage.
The lack of physical media has been a fear of many gamers over the past couple of years, especially with the size of games increasing. Essentially, only so much data can be stored through disks, so the move to digital media actually makes sense as games get bigger.
Still, not having disks would be a huge slap in the face for video game preservation. Digital just doesn't inspire much confidence in keeping games intact with all the various server woes and delisting of things like Driveclub, so maybe physical is the way to go for the foreseeable future.
