Race Your Favourite WWE Superstars In MMX Racing
Think you could beat The Undertaker in his custom ride?
Free-to-play games are all the rage in 2015, and thankfully, rather than tantalise WWE fans with the notion of racing their favourite superstars only to lock them behind a paywall, this latest MMX Racing spin-off lets you unlock everything through straight-up hard work. First released in 2014 as just 'MMX Racing', Hutch Games' potent combination of tap n' hold gameplay has been updated with the cream of WWE's current crop of superstars. A full rundown of who's featured includes:
The Undertaker Stone Cole Steve Austin Triple H John Cena The Big Show Mark Henry Paige The Lucha DragonsAll the above come with their own custom rides, WWE Crush Hour-style, if you remember that little car-smashing gem from 2003. This new MMX release doesn't feature character models for the aforementioned wrestlers, instead letting the WWE's iconography speak for itself through their logos, apparel, arena-themed racetracks and of course, the rides themselves. The game is free at a base level, including all the unlicensed cars and the occasional WWE one-off race. You'll have to pay £3.99 for your first wrestler, but from there you'll unlock a new tier of competition where you can amass WWE coins to get the rest. The behind/side-on view can feel a little obscure if you're coming at this with an approach predicated on playing like a more traditional racer, but once you realise the subtle nuances of things like how to nail a perfect start, exactly how to get the most air and how best to land following a huge jump, that's when Hutch's solid gameplay hook starts to make its mark. The best part is the addictive progressional model put into bolstering your ride with tons of upgrades in a bevy of key areas to help with acceleration and maintaining top speed, but the whole thing wouldn't hold together if not for some exquisite sound design. Seriously, when you launch off the edge of a ramp and the music drops out, only for you to come crashing down, the resulting roar as engines kick back in and you tear off down the track is exhilarating. Mobile games are either extremely addictive and rewarding, or devastating money-sinks aimed squarely at your wallet. Thankfully, MMX Racing is the former, despite and all the better for it.
