Rage 2: 10 Features That Prove It's Better Than DOOM
7. Enemy Factions That Provide Their Own Unique Challenges
There was a notable variety of enemies in DOOM, but you never really had the time to appreciate all the different kinds. This can mostly be chalked up to your hands being around each demon's neck before that enemy earns a spot on your Codex. This was particularly true in the late-game sections when kill combos stacked up quickly and enemies went down fast. Demons aren't exactly the most sociable, but it would've been nice to feel the differences among the many types.
This is where Rage 2's faction system stands strong. Instead of demons that blend together, you've got enemies with different attack patterns, unique appearances, and, at least, an implied history. When coming across a specific faction, you've got to pick an approach appropriately-suited to that group's skill set.
It's also just refreshing to fight enemies that don't mirror the behavior/fighting style of their fellow enemy NPC brethren. In games that thrive on their combat systems, a little variety goes a long way.
