In a big open world, your means of getting around dictates just how enjoyable the 'open' part of the game is. If Rage 2 got stingy on how much choice players had in traversing the map, or if driving ended up totally dull, the overall experience would suffer. Thankfully, Avalanche Studios used its experience with Mad Max to make driving enjoyable.

And when it comes to what you get to drive, id Software had a simple philosophy: 'If you see, you can drive it.' Whether it's a drone or fortified war rig, you get to take control of whatever suits your needs. This feature helps bring additional player freedom and joy into the sometimes too-quiet wasteland.

DOOM employed a simple floating style of movement and it worked well within the context of the game but R2's multiple methods of movement at least gave off that Mad Max feel where you can wreak havoc in style.
