Ranking 2015’s Summer Video Games From Worst To Best

9. Gears Of War: Ultimate Edition

Sometimes there's a game that unassumingly comes out of nowhere and changes everything. GTA III did it, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare did it - and for third-person action-adventures, despite Resident Evil 4 setting in motion the whole over-shoulder camera stuff back in 2004, Gears of War did it with a perfected cover system and better controls, becoming the standard blueprint for every single third-person title since. From Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows tie-ins to James Bond spin-offs, the 'stop n' pop' trading-fire system has been seen far and wide - but nobody does it better than Epic's original flagship franchise. Marcus Fenix and co. have always been the tree-trunk-legged heroes we associate with blasting alien scum into a thousand different pieces, and when this Ultimate Edition has completely remastered graphics, a higher multiplayer frame rate, some of the best set-pieces in the whole series and totally reworked cutscenes with new dialogue - it's the best version yet.
