Doom VFR
Bethesda

Unlike Skyrim VR, this isn't just a straight port of a popular Bethesda game in the VR format. Rather, Doom VFR is a brand new game that condenses and translates the modern Doom experience (mostly) successfully onto VR headsets.

On the positive, the main streamlined compromise is alternating the teleportation feature for the melee attack of snatching health in mid-combat... and it works cleverly.

On the other side, while the devs offer variety in play set-up, none fully sit comfortably. Controller players have to aim pistols with their head, motion controllers can't turn properly, and Aim-support mucks up grenades. It feels like the studio created the game first, and thought of controls second.

Still, you'd think the recent Doom game's frenetic fast-paced and gory action just couldn't translate to VR realistically, but id Software does a pretty solid job with adapting it inTO an enjoyable experience.

Plus, despite the short campaign time (about three hours), it does just enough to not feel like a glorified proof of concept.
