Ranking All Soulsborne Games From Worst To Best
3. Dark Souls 3
This third instalment marked the (thankful) return of game director Hidetaka Miyazaki to the main series, with him embracing the opportunity to wrap up the games in a fitting style.
Gorgeously designed levels, some of the best boss battles, and a smooth and finessed control and combat system fill up this impressive entry. The responsiveness to the gameplay is so fast and impressive that it finally sheds any notion of frustrating deaths due to clunkiness.
With all that said, it lacks something. The franchise and its exposure were well-known by this point, with it losing its spark of unpredictability and freshness. Dark Souls 1 was a terrifying and engrossing experience because you never knew what the developers were going to throw at you at any given time (hell, even the pause menu left you a wide-open target!). With this final go around, one knew what to expect going in, dampening the magic and leading to an overly familiar experience.
Still, it can't be denied that the results lead it to be the definitive entry of the Soulsborne titles - at least when it comes to refinement and technical prowess. Even so, it can’t top the ‘wow factor’ of what came before it.
