Sonic Ranking 3

Despite naming an entire level in honour of his magnum opus, it was Michael Jackson, not David Bowie, who stepped up to compose the soundtrack for Sonic 3 (though the 'Thin White Duke' did lend his talents to David Cage's Omikron, fact fans.) It might be Jareth free, but it nevertheless lives up to its name.

Sonic's first time getting his quills wet has proved memorable for a certain generation of gamers, particularly for the nightmare fuel of the countdown timer. I once set my phone alarm to that music, and woke up every morning desperately afraid of drowning.

Labyrinth also has one of Sonic 1's most inventive bosses - and kudos to anyone who actually managed to defeat him. Wet, and wild.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
