VERY few games have ever done animal A.I. well. Fable 2 and 3 almost had it down with dogs that would respond to your commands in a semi-sentient way, but it's nothing on looking after, riding and petting Trico: The Last Guardian's giant bird-dog-cat concoction.
Seemingly thrown into a prison alongside yourself, you'll have to team up to escape, and here's where the A.I. comes into play. See, the only way to "control" Trico (who acts as a moving platform to traverse areas or to help out in combat), is through a number of commands.
Initially he's despondent, or he'll get confused if you say too many things at once. All of this pays off like nothing else though, when you finally realise the timing of everything.
Having Trico jump up to greet you, make the save during a fight or carry you across a gaping chasm feels like every Iron Giant/The BFG-style movie ever, with you at the centre.
