Ranking What Was REALLY The Best Video Game Every Year 1990-2021
2016 - Titanfall 2
The game that remains painfully overlooked - though the amount of titles now featuring grappling hooks is a direct callback to this title's supremacy in the field - Titanfall 2 is hands-down the best first-person shooter the average gamer hasn't played.
Released in between Call of Duty and Battlefield of that year, Respawn's followup shooter was always Game of the Year.
The kinetic, flowing feel of movement, balancing act of calling in your Titan to do mech-based damage, or awesome game modes like Bounty Hunt, where points aren't banked until you make it to a safe place.
The Witness and INSIDE are stellar indies and No Man's Sky should still be highlighted as 17 people reaching for the stars no matter what, but it's time Titanfall 2 joined the ranks of the elite any time we talk about 2016 in gaming.
