Real Reason Mick Gordon Left DOOM
Id Software weighs in on their side of the story.
A few weeks ago it was reported that Mick Gordon, the lead composer of Doom and Doom Eternal, had severed ties with Bethesda and id Software and wouldn't be working on future projects from the companies. Picking up these comments, fans put together that the Eternal OST only featured a handful of tracks mixed by Gordon himself, with the rest being mixed by id.
Many were quick to jump to the composer's defence, but Executive Producer on Doom, Marty Stratton, has now posted a lengthy explanation on the official Doom Reddit page, going into detail about the process of creating the OST and why it isn't quite as one-sided as a lot of fans have assumed.
Though you should check out the full thing in its entirety, the producer makes it clear that the team tried to accommodate Gordon's work, offering extensions and delaying the OST so he could finish it to his standards. However, when it was clear that there were going to be more issues, their Lead Audio Designer began remixing tracks from the game files to fill out the OST, which was cleared in advance with Gordon and with his blessing.
The hate this designer has received from fans not understanding the entire story is what ultimately prompted the post, and id clarifying that Gordon will not be working on the upcoming Doom Eternal DLC.
