Red Dead Redemption 2 And The REAL Wild West

Hot off the heels with its war with Spain, in February 1899 the USA went to war with its newly won possession, the Philippines. These wars come at a time of growing US strength internationally.

This also comes with some pretty cool military innovations that seem almost too futuristic to be used by Dutch and the gang. Rockstar love to cram oddities into their games though, and one cool piece of kit used in this era was the War Kite.

It’s a simple concept. Strap a man to a large kite and send him up over the canopy to scout the enemy. It’s doubtful these will come of use to Arthur but it would be pretty fun to strap a deadbeat who skipped out on his payments to the gang to one and shoot him down!

In terms of weapons in this era, it's your classic revolvers and rifles still, though developments to recoil driven or gas powered machine guns are making strides. While in the First Read Dead Redemption game a hand powered Gatling Gun is used to great effect, more effective models such as the maxim gun are well in use by the 1880s.

Gunning down hundreds of people with automatic fire is more of a GTA thing so we expect the use will be sparing in Red Dead 2
