Red Dead Redemption 2 Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

2. Rockstar's Trademark Mediocre Combat

Combat has always been a weak point of Rockstar's games, and sadly RDR2 is no different.

Though gunplay is certainly not challenging due to the ultra-generous snap-aim and pornographic slow-mo that is Dead Eye, it nevertheless has a frustratingly floaty feel to it as has been the case with every game Rockstar has made for at least the last decade.

In addition to the wonky shooting itself, finding cover takes more effort than it probably should, with Arthur often getting turned around or flat-out not conforming to your requests.

Though fistfights aren't terribly frequent throughout the game, that's probably a good thing, because they don't boil down to much more than spamming the punch button, occasionally pressing block, and rinsing and repeating until your opponent finally stops moving. It's extremely rudimentary for a game that's so complex in so many areas.

While it probably won't happen, fingers are crossed that Rockstar finally fixes the shooting for GTA VI.
