Red Dead Redemption: Who Should Play Who In A Live Action Adaptation
20. Josiah Trelawny - Timothy Olyphant
The Character: It's easy to forget about this guy. For most of the time you wander round your camps, Josiah is nowhere to be found.
Less of a gunslinger, Trelawny is a silver-tongued devil and a conman. His appearances within RDR2 come in fleeting moments, but when they do, they are to drive huge aspects of the story forward. He prompts the gang to rescue Sean MacGuire from bounty hunters, he is the catalyst that gets Dutch, Arthur and Bill (for some reason?) in bed with Sheriff Gray, and is the architect of the casino boat robbery in Saint Denis.
The Actor: If the character of Trelawny was treated like a guest appearance, why not go hell for leather and have fun with the casting? Timothy Olyphant's cameo in the second season of The Mandalorian was a delightful surprise to all, and it wouldn't be any different if he were cast as the trickster of the Van Der Linde Gang.
Best of all, Olyphant has a winning confidence and charisma that would lend itself well to a character like Trelawny. It's never a dull or sombre moment with Josiah, and Olyphant is the man to keep that charm alive.
