Resident Evil 2 Remake: 9 Iconic Moments We Can't Wait To See
5. Jump Scares
Raccoon City's police department is a fun house, one filled to the brim with tricks and surprises waiting to be triggered. They range from the classics: foreign objects - dogs, arms, birds, you name it - bursting through windows to the more subtle instances of presumed-dead corpses twitching in the background just as you reach for the door handle to leave.
They're the types of idiosyncrasies not just associated, but expected of Capcom in the horror space and Resident Evil 2 has some of the best the series has ever seen.
The autopsy room hatch falling off its hinges. The Licker busting through mirrored glass in the interrogation room. Mr. X constructing makeshift doorways in walls with his bare hands. These are the types of heart-stopping moments we gasp and then curse at ourselves for being caught off guard by, and make classic Resident Evil what it is.
The caveat to this, of course, is that jump scares only work once, but Capcom has come up with the clever workaround of relocating and/or changing certain events.
A remake this may be, but don't expect everything to be in the same place your muscle memory recalls it to be.
