Resident Evil 6: 10 Reasons We Should Give Chris a Chance

5. Returning Fire

One of the things I€™m hearing from the responses to the new demo is that the concept of a Zombie being able to use an assault rifle, as Umbrella's new breed can, is bogus. Again, I look back to the whole €˜change is bad€™ argument, and I€™m not so sure I buy into it. I mean, look at Romero€™s €˜€of the Dead€™ series, and you€™ll see that even he posed that the undead could learn, be taught to use tools, even weaponry. Whether you€™re into the idea or not, one thing I will say is that it sort of makes sense. Umbrella always intended on their virus being used as a weapon, and throughout the franchise, we€™ve seen them aggressively develop it€™s capability to create new and more destructive creatures. Sure, these creatures started out as vanilla Zombies, but doesn€™t it ring true that Umbrella would look to improve on that original, slow, ineffective and uncontrollable model? Doesn€™t it make sense that they€™d look to create an army of subservient Weskers? And for me, this creates texture. When I play Resident Evil, I€™m used to zombies, and zombies are still there in force by the looks of Leon€™s demo campaign. But as you play through the different stories on offer in Resi 6, you€™ll also encounter different types of threat; far from being inane, to me, this represents definite evolution for both the franchise and its monsters.
