It's no secret that the whole franchise has largely adopted horror in favour of the more lucrative and popular third person shooter style of gameplay but it's a genuine insult to the core fanbase that such a loved horror property is no longer scary. The Playstation releases were all scary in their own ways, with 1 revelling in its brand new box of tricks, 2 having both Leon and Claire hunted by inexplicable monsters throughout their time in the police station and 3 having the one and only Nemesis. All three had the perfect balance of action and tension building, combined with a very limited amounts of resources that you were generally afraid to use lest you need them further down the line. The HD generation games didn't do any of this, instead giving you plentiful resources, set pieces, giant bullet sponge monsters and on rails shooter sections and companions who were able to help you out of a tight spot. The scares were gone in favour of cheap action, big cutscenes and far too much dialogue. Bring back the isolation, the unknown, the heartbreaking choice of whether to use your last green herb to heal or face whatever is in the next room with your health on DANGER. Bring back the Resident Evil that scared the hell out of everyone all the way back in 1996. What else do you want to see from Resident Evil 7? Share your thoughts below in the comments thread.
