Resident Evil 7: 10 Essential Things It Must Have

3. Improved Pacing

You remember that first time you played Resident Evil, don't you? After the wonderfully awful live action cutscene you found yourself in an empty mansion and you were told to explore. Nothing happened, you had to check doors, move through a couple of rooms, listen to dialogue, it could easily take you half an hour to reach that first zombie and by then you were already terrified when NOTHING HAD HAPPENED. Fast forward 16 years and RE6 starts you off in a University, 2 minutes after Leon has shot the president and there are zombies everywhere. You've got a gun, a HUD with a health bar, you're in business. The game doesn't get to you because it drops you straight into the action with no chance to build the tension. The whole point of a horror game is to scare you, or at the very least make you feel uneasy and the new school of the series simply don't both with it, they get straight to the point of shooting stuff in the face with copious amounts of ammo.
