Resident Evil HD: 10 Essential Lessons Capcom Must Relearn

1. Know Your Audience

There was a time when Resident Evil knew what kind of game it wanted to be. It wanted to scare you, make you dread the idea of turning a corner or opening a locked door. But the series has since devolved into half-baked action games in an effort to appeal to as wide an audience as possible. It now has more in common with Gears of Wars and Call of Duty than original Resident Evil, and fans are growing disinterested. This is what happens when a series that was built on appealing to a niche audience forgets them. Capcom used to make the Resi series for fans of the genre, and the remake is a dream for those who love horror games - it's so impeccably detailed and dripping with atmosphere. For the future of the franchise, Capcom needs to remember this and stop trying to unnecessarily broaden the appeal of Resident Evil. It€™s obvious that it€™s not working, as Resident Evil 6 was considered a financial failure. Capcom needs to return to making smaller budgeted horror games that don€™t need to sell millions of copies to be successful, and instead appeal to the audience that made them successful in the first place. Without them, Resident Evil wouldn€™t be the franchise that it is today. What else could Capcom learn from past Resident Evil games, especially this one? Let us know in the comments!
