Of course, nobody can guess the quality of a TV show that hasn't even been commissioned yet. If the series secures the right showrunner, the right cast and a team of talented writers, then this new project may prove to be even more lucrative than Anderson's big-screen efforts.

And while fans will no doubt be crossing every appendage on their body in the hope of this finally being the Resi adaptation they've been waiting for, it's also a fascinating prospect for Netflix as a whole. Cinema has been a notoriously toxic place for video game properties, always failing to capitalise on their rabid fanbases and producing movies that appeal to neither players nor casual movie-goers.

Netflix, on the other hand, with Castlevania, The Witcher and potentially now Resident Evil, could be the first major player to really fulfil the potential of that untapped audience.
