9. Nods To Superman: The Animated Series

Though Superman: The Animated Series isn't held in nearly the same regard as Batman: The Animated Series (even though it should, really, along with both Justice League cartoons), it did much the same with that character as that other show did. That's largely because the creative team that helmed BTAS - Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, Alan Burnett et al. - helmed this one too, translating the timeless feel of that show to the bright splendour of the Jerry Siegel-Joe Shuster comic.
Considering that Batman: Arkham also found inspiration in BTAS, with writer Paul Dini having scripted the first two games, it wouldn't be disingenuous to assume that this other show from the DC Animated Universe will inspire Rocksteady's next effort. Last week's rumour hinted that this was indeed the case, and with that in mind, we should expect to see a few nods to STAS along the way.
Like Batman, Rocksteady will inevitably look towards a myriad of interpretations to formulate their own universe. If STAS is a primary one, however, then fans can rest assured that the game is on its way to a successful end.

In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
