Sekiro: 7 Weirdest Enemies (And What They Represent)

5. Long Arm Centipedes

Sekiro Corrupted Monk
From Software

Some of the creepiest enemies in Sekiro, the Long Arm Centipedes are terribly mutated monks that have transformed into monstrous centipedes in the place of men, wielding disgustingly long and strangely-jointed arms as their weapons.

The centipedes of the game seem to represent the corruption of the monk's religion, with this final form being those who have been pushed the furthest from their honourable human origins - becoming literal pests in the process of losing their sanity.

Centipedes, in ancient eastern symbolism, are the representative of leaders. They're considered chiefs for their ability to scare, poison, and turn even the bravest warriors into terrified messes. These Long Arm variants are an excellent example of making even the strongest player want to wet their pants in fear. Only great heroes could defeat centipedes in folklore, so it's lucky we get to play as one in Sekiro.

And of course, centipedes are seen as polluted creatures, associated with death and decay. With the religion of Sekiro being one that founds itself on 'The Undying'; a force that clues you in to its deviation from life by its very title - the centipede seems a fitting herald for this theme to play out through.
