Shenmue 3: 10 Things It Needs To Be Successful
8. Crossover DLC Or Crossover Characters
Probably one of the best current games for this is, surprisingly, Sonic Lost World for the Wii U.
Offering Hyrule-themed content via The Legend of Zelda and Yoshi's Island content where the game transforms into a hybrid of Mario and Sonic (without an Olympic contest in sight), Lost World demonstrates that games can blossom beyond the core mechanics and characters. Thankfully, SEGA also offer Nights from Nights into Dreams - another great throwback character giving the game variety.
A ton of crossover fighters are nothing new since Street Fighter, Smash Brothers and Sony's All-Stars have all offered one or more titles in this vein.
Shenmue is ripe for this - the fact that Shenmue started life as a Virtua Fighter RPG offers a whole roster of SEGA hard-hitters. They could even appear as story characters. Personally I'd love Ryo to have some serious fisticuffs and/or training with old drunken Shun Di.
Or even have a cameo whereby Akira is running a Lucky Hit stand. Why not have Kage-Maru as a trainer for Ryo? The possibilities are endless!
