Skyrim: 10 Glaring Problems Everyone Always Overlooks
5. Far Too Many Perks Are Useless
Not all perks are useless, but the vast majority are completely worthless. For every sneak damage multiplier, there are three dozen pitiful armour bonuses. The game boasts an extensive collection of skill trees each with their own perks and progression paths allowing for supposedly varied builds. However, it's more of an illusion of choice than actual meaningful decisions.
They all end up being used in a tiny amount of situations, and more often than not, are not worth the bother. Skills are meant to change the gameplay, especially in a game that encourages unique playstyles. However, Skyrim's skills are just unimaginative and dull, tweaking existing stats or giving the player an ability that is only useful under contrived circumstances.
It's disappointing, because the useful skills that are there, make for excellent builds. Sadly, there are so few, only a couple of distinct builds will actually transform your experience. The vast majority rely on gimmicks that make a for an interesting few minutes of messing around, but add nothing to the game.
