Skyrim: Dragonborn: 5 Reasons It's Awesome, 5 Reasons It Sucks

2. The Story

The Elder Scrolls games have never exactly had the most inspiring stories for their games, but Dragonborn's narrative feels especially piecemeal, even for a DLC, even for one in this series. As mentioned above, these games tend to survive more on the atmosphere and the astonishing level of detail put into the world, but really, given the potential to build up to an exciting all-out battle against Miraak, it feels like something of a wasted opportunity. For starters, we barely see any of Miraak or get to know him as a character beyond being the stereotypical big bad, and even when he does show up, he clings desperately to the typical villain playbook. Though I won't delve into spoilers, to say that the final battle is somewhat underwhelming is to make the understatement of the century.
