Skyrim Special Edition PS4: 12 Essential Mods You Need To Download

Sick of being over-encumbered? Let's fix that.

Although Sony have somewhat dropped the ball with mod support on PS4 (only giving players 1GB of extra space and denying all external assets when creating them), it hasn't stopped players having a blast with Skyrim's phenomenal Special Edition.

Bethesda's crowning achievement is just as much a jaw-dropper now as back in 2011, easily having one of the most masterfully-designed worlds in video game history, backed by an exemplary score, cast of characters and a mythology that will stand the test of time.

Truly, Skyrim is in my top three of all time, and I wager it's right up there for you, too.

Whilst this new version has been released on PS4, Xbox One and PC, no doubt if you've been scouring online for what to download on PS4, you'll find the aforementioned content restrictions mean a good 80% of the most notable mods just aren't compatible.

It's a bummer, but that hasn't stopped me collating some of the finest mods you can acquire right now.

Note: Just search the following from inside 'Mods' on the main menu, then download and install. The game will take care of the rest by backing up your original save file incase any of them don't play well together.

12. Rain And Snow FX

Ever since Naughty Dog had Nathan Drake emerge out a body of water with some appropriately-soaked clothing, everybody and their granny has implemented some sort of graphical effect for weather or environmental degradation.

Not Skyrim though, which is where this mod comes in. Rain and Snow FX promises to make your armour/clothing "ice over in a noticeable way" before removing the buildup once you're back indoors.

It even adds 'dripping particle effects' after you've been swimming, and leaves a shiny skin texture on any exposed areas. All in all, a relatively subtle addition, but one that makes all the difference to your visuals when out on a lengthy quest.
