Unless the movie's setting of Montana is hiding a mammoth mycologist's utopia, we're pretty sure the giant funguses briefly shown behind a much more familiar Dr. Robotnik in the closing frames of the trailer are not from this world.

What are they all about then? Sonic nerds will spot the connection immediately: that's the Mushroom Hill Zone from Sonic & Knuckles, suggesting either a cheeky nod to a classic level, or that, as the previous giant rings seemed to intimate, the movie is set to transpire across multiple universes.

And be, you know, a Sonic film. Creepy ungloved fingers crossed, eh?
