6. The Return Of An Icon

Sony have seen a great deal of success lately by diving deep into PlayStation's hefty nostalgia catalogue. The reboot of Ratchet & Clank in 2016 reviewed exceptionally well, while Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy is looking to be one of the year's best-selling exclusives. Aside from Nintendo, Sony have one of the richest back-catalogues in gaming history, featuring some of the industry's most beloved and recognisable mascots. Considering the success so far, it makes sense to continue these revivals.

The most likely icon to return next is Spyro the Dragon. Activision saw a great deal of success by bringing Crash back properly, so they'll almost certainly be looking to their next most popular acquisition. With Skylanders all but dead and buried, Spyro needs a place to go and a return to his glory days would be met with a similar fanfare to Crash.

However, Spyro's return is an event perhaps best suited for E3. Therefore, Sony might look towards reviving a slightly smaller icon in the meantime, like Sly Cooper, whose last outing was 2013's well-received Thieves in Time.

Despite being well-received, it failed to set sales on fire. These days though, with the rapid rebirth of the 3D platformer genre, there's a good chance that Sly would be welcomed with open arms.
