Japan Studio teamed with Media.Vision, a studio that created the forgettable action shooters, Crime Crackers and Rapid Reload, also happened to be the first two published games by Japan Studio.

Their third team-up would be much more memorable, in the form of this classic JRPG genre shake-up.

Eschewing the traditional settings of Japanese role-playing-games at the time (e.g. European Medevil fantasy or dystopian Sci-Fi) and mashing it up with a Wild West setting, and Japanese and Norse mythology - it is a barmy hybrid that has rarely been equaled.

It's a decent tale too, with it touching upon interesting themes of gun control and environmentalism, plus It marked the first time a JRPG had used 3D animation for battle sequences...an influence that would go on to change the genre forever.

The original became an RPG tentpole for Sony in Japan, and the series would span eight further entries: Wild Arms Alter Code: F is a slick remake of the original for the PS2, but Wild Arms 3 is considered the strongest installment due to a great story and refined combat.
