Soul Calibur 6: 10 Things It Must Learn From Tekken 7

7. No Paid DLC Characters

EA One of the best things to come out of the seventh generation iterations of Tekken was that Harada didn€™t make the Tekken games paywall locked, DLC monstrosities. Tekken Tag Tournament 2 had an online pass, but with that, you got the actual DLC free of charge. As said by the acclaimed developer, it€™s pretty much essential that nobody has €œpay to win€ characters, or that some users are locked out of the content. Given that this is his policy moving forward with the franchise, it€™s pretty much a given that any DLC characters in Tekken 7 will be available to all users free of charge. The Soul series has unfortunately not been as kind. Soul Calibur IV had the guest characters of Darth Vader and Yoda exclusive to the PS3 and Xbox 360 respectively. Users could then purchase Yoda via PSN or Vader via XBL Marketplace. Needless to say, both were overpowered in their own right, with Yoda being nigh-impossible to hit. Soul Calibur V mainly limited the DLC to music tracks and create-a-character parts. However, the character Dampierre was a DLC character who, while not overpowered, put one of the few unique characters in the game behind a (easily hackable) paywall. Let€™s hope that SC takes a page from Tekken€™s book and makes any post-release characters free.
