Spider-Man 2 - 10 Essential Fan Demands It Must Include

8. More Varied Street Crimes

Ever since Treyarch's movie tie-in for Spider-Man 2 gamers have spent most of their time with the wall-crawler's games swinging around the city and avoiding the main story. Granted you shouldn't do that forever, but most open world Spider-Man experiences have let players fulfil their fantasies swinging around NYC and stopping the occasional crime, just like a real friendly neighbourhood vigilante.

Insomniac's game was no different, but there came a point where taking down crimes didn't pay. Players would find themselves swinging back and forth through city blocks as the story approached its endgame, looking for crimes to generate in specific districts in order to get 100% completion. The formula of 'there are X crimes per district' ended up making the encounters feel less organic, and with only a set amount to deal with, the tasks soon got repetitive.

Granted, any element of repetition is inevitable - even for Spider-Man in the comics. There are only so many ways you can break up a drug deal or stop a car chase, but there are also other activities Spidey would get up to.

What about helicopter crimes? Runaway trains? Heck, even children who've lost their balloon? There are plenty of ways to make street crimes more varied, and it would be great to see Insomniac implement them going forward.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
