Spider-Man: Miles Morales - 10 Things It MUST Include

5. Nods To The Ultimate Comics... And S.H.I.E.L.D.

Although it's very much dead now, the Ultimate Universe (2000-2015, RIP), was possibly the single most influential comics imprint of the new millennium. You can see its DNA in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, video games like X-Men Legends and Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and in various other pieces of media based on Marvel comics, including shows like Spectacular Spider-Man and X-Men: Evolution.

No character has arguably benefitted more from the Ultimate Universe than Spider-Man. Brian Bendis and Mark Bagley's run on Ultimate Spider-Man is perhaps the only one that could equal the original Lee-Ditko and Romita comics of the 1960s. It's also responsible for giving us Miles Morales, and for providing the template from which the Homecoming series of films has quite unashamedly copied. (Although why they changed Ganke's name to 'Ned' is anyone's guess.)

Bit of a tangent, maybe, but it's an important qualifier. The Ultimate series of comics had a huge influence on Spidey and given that's where Miles came from, Insomniac would do well to sling a nod or two in its direction.

Strengthen those links to the wider Marvel universe by having Miles get contacted by S.H.I.E.L.D., just as he was in the comics. With Peter absent and Yuri out there vigilante-ing as Wraith, Miles could do with some new allies, like Nick Fury, or maybe even one of the Spider-Women - Jessica Drew or Julia Carpenter.
