Spider-Man PS4: 10 Things It Must Learn From Batman Arkham
1. Easter Eggs. Lots And Lots Of Easter Eggs.
When it comes to Easter Eggs, no video game franchise has - arguably - been able to produce as many as Batman: Arkham. There are literally hundreds of them layered between Asylum and Knight, and in sparking interest for the series' future, their presence has been invaluable.
Although neither Rocksteady or Warner Bros. Montreal have been able to capitalise on the dozens of hints, nods and eggs alluding towards the wider DCU so far, there's a common acceptance amongst the Arkham faithful that both studios will venture outside of Gotham's city limits at some point, if not in a Superman game, then in something incorporating the Justice League (as has so often been rumoured).
With Spidey (and building upon Rosemann's earlier comments of a wider MCU-esque gaming universe), there's massive potential to tease an audience of future projects. The Sanctum Sanctorum is already there, as is Avengers Tower and the Wakandan Embassy, and with more locales sure to follow (Hell's Kitchen would be pretty rad, just saying...), there'll be plenty of material for fans to sink their teeth into.
This could be the start of something truly special, and with Batman: Arkham having largely redefined what superhero video games are capable of, who's to say that Insomniac's Spidey won't as well?
