Spider-Man PS4: 10 Ways It Owes Its Success To The PS2 Spider-Man 2 Game

6. Peter Parker As His Own Character

Spider-Man's secret identity matters more than perhaps any other superhero in comic books history. It's what makes his decision to unmask during the 'Civil War' run so significant, and the MCU's decision to plaster his identity everywhere so controversial. And maybe it's because he's the only hero to whom his secret identity is so key that the concept so often slips out of view.

Spidey's PS4 outing made a BIG deal out of how being Peter Parker affected Spider-Man and vice versa, the troubles and conflicts that arose and ultimately how uniting the two men wins the day.

This is utterly at the front of Spider-Man 2,. While this could easily be chalked up to how heavily it factors into Raimi's movie, the game still uses cutscenes to develop Peter Parker separately to Spider-Man, something that could have easily been glossed over and taken for granted in developing the game.

Its success here meant Insomniac could double down when approaching their Spidey game. Knowing people would enjoy time spent with milquetoast Peter meant his out of costume moments could be as key to the story as the things he did suited up.
