It's rare that a AAA game lives up to and exceeds the hype surrounding it, but PS4 exclusive Marvel's Spider-Man is one such example. The game is amazing, and you should absolutely be playing it.

And now that it's been out for almost two weeks, we've had plenty of time to play this thing to death, uncovering all sorts of secrets and perfecting the art of Spider-Man's meaty, fluid combat system. As a result, those looking to ace all the Taskmaster challenges, complete every enemy hideout and attend to each street crime should be looking to maximize the potential of the deep moveset present within the game.

While Spider-Man isn't as difficult as the Arkham series, it's got a handful of annoying enemy types (who else hates Brutes?), and certain encounters can be tricky, especially if you're looking to attain a high score in a combat challenge.

On the plus side, you've got more than enough options at your fingertips to make the entire game a breeze - it's just a case of uncovering those useful tips that might not be immediately obvious while playing normally.

7. Permanently Stay In The Air For Safer, Uninterrupted Combos

Though it's perfectly functional, Spider-Man's basic, ground-level combat using the square button to mash out attacks is probably the least effective (and least fun) way to play the game.

Instead, Spidey is much more deadly when he's off the ground, keeping his distance in order to avoid those tight groups of enemies that like to sucker punch him... a lot. There's even a whole section of the moves list dedicated purely to aerial combat, as if you needed more of a hint.

Simply keeping Spidey airborne makes combat much more manageable, and it's not even hard to do. Hold square to attack an enemy and bring them into the air for a couple of punches, and when Spidey knocks them away, hold triangle to yank another enemy skyward (requires the Air Yank skill) and give them a few knuckle sandwiches too. Rinse and repeat these button presses and you can take out roughly three enemies without even touching the floor. When you land, just start the process again.

Staying off the ground has several advantages. One, you'll be further away from enemy grenades, making them easier to dodge. Two, since you only have one enemy to deal with, there's less of a chance your combo will be interrupted. And three, aerial combat generates more Focus.

Pair this method with the Bullet Proof or Titanium Alloy Plates suit power and you'll become an indestructible force to be reckoned with.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
