Star Wars Battlefront: 10 Things That Need To Happen
10. Adjustable Perspectives
The actual viewpoint of a shooter provides a quiet but dramatic distinction. Often times, first- and third-person perspectives are virtually invisible and brushed aside as design choices. However, many players prefer one or the other - the more personal, character-inclusive third-person, or the more visceral, engrossing qualities of first-person. Star Wars: Battlefront has always included both, and it owes a chunk of its popularity to that versatility. Beyond the power of choice, however, alternating perspectives serves a unique role in Battlefront. CIS Droideka's, for example, are ill-suited to first-person. Typical foot units, meanwhile, are fine for both, which means play style will ultimately decide things. More melee-centric characters such as the series' Jedi combatants lengthen the list further, because nobody wants to swat soldiers around with a lightsaber in first-person. It'd be like trying to fight the rain. Thankfully, as Videogamer reports, EA Games Label president Frank Gibeau has confirmed that Battlefront 3 "has a third-person component to it," though he failed to specify what that component will be. He could be talking about vehicle controls for all anyone knows. Fingers crossed.
A freelance games writer, you say? Typically battling his current RPG addiction and ceaseless perfectionism? A fan of horror but too big a sissy to play for more than a couple of hours? Spends far too much time on JRPGs and gets way too angry with card games?
Well that doesn't sound anything like me.
