Star Wars Battlefront 2: 10 New Gameplay Details You Need To Know
9. Droid-Based Companion In Single-Player Combat
"The Empire is known for its technological prowess and so giving her this combat ready droid gives her a greater range, a greater reach, more versatility, more flexibility [...] The the droid is one of the ways through which the players can express their own personal style of play and how they choose to engage with a combat scenario." - Mark Thompson, DICE (Eurogamer).
The nearest comparison that springs to mind is Killzone: Shadow Fall, where in that game you were given a multifaceted drone - called an 'OWL' - that could be sent to complete a number of tasks, both combat and reconnaissance-based.
For Battlefront, the trailer and subsequent artwork has shown newcomer Iden Versio complete with a small droid that 'lives' on her back, being summon-able when necessary.
Thanks to an interview with Eurogamer, DICE's Mark Thompson ostensibly confirmed that in an effort to make playing as Versio far more engaging than just another Stormtrooper, she'll have access to this little droid's capabilities. It remains to be seen how scripted the campaign will be overall - Thompson couldn't comment on non-linearity - but at least this means that for the array of battles we do have to take part in, there'll be some welcome variety on offer.
