Star Wars Battlefront 2: 8 New Features We Can't Wait To Try
4. Special Units
Spicing up the sandbox is clearly one of DICE's top priorities for Battlefront 2 - the larger pool of playable heroes and villains is clear evidence of that - but the developer's removal of the archaic Token system has opened up space for expansion elsewhere, too.
Special units, that is, soldiers and combat units that aren't selectable by default as you spawn into a match, can be unlocked in much the same way (accruing Battle Points) as heroes and villains and serve as stepping stones on the power scale between standard peon and lightsaber-wielding maniac.
Federation Battle Droids and special variations of the standard Clone/Stormtroopers are just some of the units that DICE has so far hand-picked to show off in action but even from the small sample size, it's obvious that their role isn't that of a straightforward power upgrade.
Their purpose is to upset the status quo of any given match. If both teams have found themselves at an impasse, deploying as a Battle Droid could be the game-changer one needs to efficiently clear a room and capture the objective.
Be wise: choose your poison carefully. Deploying into the narrow hallways of Theed's throne room as a Jumptrooper will do nothing to help your comrades!
