Though the industry refuses to believe they exist, there are a HUGE amount of gamers who simply don't care for microtransactions, online multiplayer and loot grinds. Instead they've been waiting for something like Battlefront 2's single player to justify dropping cash on the game overall, and though I've only had hands-on with a handful of missions, they show a level of proficiency in the game's script, approach to game design and care for the subject matter that if you're anything of a Star Wars fan, is a must see.

Obviously it's important to remain level-headed at this stage - especially when Battlefront 2's multiplayer is currently being raked over the coals for being so money-grubby and shallow - yet all the same, these early missions show a team of fans getting the opportunity of a lifetime to write a piece of Star Wars fiction that could stand the test of time.

Even if the multiplayer offerings get buried under various microtransaction practices that muddy the waters, at least those who never wanted to bother with them in the first place have a damn-fine alternative to get lost in.
