Star Wars Battlefront 2 Reviews: 11 Early Reactions You Need To Know

2. The Random Progression Is Tedious

After constant feedback from both the beta and recent early access playthroughs of the game, EA is very slowly listening to the fans and changing the way progression works in Battlefront 2. With everything originally locked behind random loot drops, now players can obtain new weapons and class-specific items by simply playing as those classes. It’s crazy that this system had to be fought for in 2017.

With that said, despite the changes EA has made, players and reviewers are saying that progression in the sequel is still a needless slog. Because while weapons can now be earned in the regular way, almost everything else is still up to chance.

Likewise, you don’t get anything special for being good at the game either, meaning that the guy at the top of the leaderboard is going to be enjoying the same rate of progression as the guy at the bottom. The currency you get from playing a match is universal no matter how well you do, so you’re always playing at the developer’s pace, rather than your own.

Again, even then, once you actually do save up, everything is based on chance anyway, so you might get a cool bit of loot, but you might be lumped with something pointless - or even worse - something you already have.
