Star Wars Battlefront: 9 Big Worries Nobody's Talking About
2. The Whole Thing Feels Too Detached
Floating, translucent tokens; a good method of content delivery they are not. When I think of the ultimate Star Wars video game experience, I imagine myself strolling up to an AT-ST, climbing atop its chicken-like frame and strapping myself in for some fun. What I don't imagine is an aimless wonder around a map, hoping to find a rotating circle with a picture of an AT-ST on it. If you're looking for a prime example of what a total lack of immersion feels like - this is it. After all, how do you suspend your disbelief when you're made to chase holographic tokens as a means to pilot a TIE Interceptor or A-wing? Only compounding the issue is the patented Lucas screen wipe as the game transitions from your character kneeling to the ground and calling on air or ground support to come save their arse. There's just no interconnectivity or feedback between any of the game's systems - they all feel like individual systems patched together rather than one seamless experience designed from the ground up. Is it already too late to overhaul the system? Who knows.
