Cal vs Maul could absolutely happen!

Star Wars fans might have suffered a blow earlier this year when EA pulled DICE off of Battlefront 2, but it's not all doom and gloom. We've known for a while now that Respawn were making a sequel to last year's stellar Jedi: Fallen Order, and with EA now referring to the IP as a "franchise" in a recent earnings call, it looks as though it's here to stay.

The sequel is widely expected to release sometime around 2022, and will no doubt pick up where the last entry left off with Cal Kestis, Cere Junda, Greez Dritus and Nightsister Merrin off ready to explore the galaxy together, presumably to learn more about the Zeffo. Not much is really known about the story at this stage, but given the setting of the first game - and the fact that Cal and co. need to get out of the picture by the time the Death Star gets built (y'know, to make sure that Luke is still the 'new' hope) - fans can probably expect it to stick around the same time gap it did last time, five-or-so-years after the fall of the Republic.

For the first game, Respawn largely called upon characters of their own making to tell their story - but there were exceptions. Saw Gerrera appeared to lead an uprising on Kashyyyk, and Darth Vader himself even featured towards the end. But what other characters could the crew of the Stinger Mantis interact with in the sequel? Who else was around at the same time they were?

Fortunately there are LOADS of great Star Wars characters who could feature in Fallen Order 2. Using what we know of the gap in between Episodes III and IV, here are the figures who have the best shot of appearing...

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
