Street Fighter 5: 10 Essential Tips All New Players Need To Know

8. Master Each Characters' Hit Range

It sounds like such a basic thing, but if you've mastered the art of hit ranges, it really propels you to another level of competition. One of the few things that hasn't changed in Street Fighter V is immediate recovery attacks. As soon as your opponent has been grounded, they can immediately pop up and hit you with a special move or a combo, so you need to learn the distance at which each character can immediately counter you. Once you've mastered that, you're laughing. If you knock your opponent down after a combo or special move, you might be tempted to jump right in and keep pounding, but you're liable to these recovery attacks. Once you know the attack range of your opponent, you can step away just enough so that your opponent won't hit you. We're not talking halfway across the screen here, because that's obvious. We're talking one step away. If your opponent tried to hit you with a Shoryuken, for example, and you're at just the right distance where they'll miss, and because they're locked in an attack animation they're left wide open for another onslaught of attack. Beware though, get it wrong and you'll be on the receiving end of some brutal punishment. Street Fighter V can be very rewarding to those who spend time mastering it, but it can also be extremely unforgiving at the slightest of mistakes.
