A Nintendo criticism that involves the words "internet" and "online"?

What a shocker.

Yes, it's true. Despite excitement over Nintendo embracing the modern gaming industry and starting to release its games on mobile, it's still making questionable decisions about the internet.

Put simply, in order to play Super Mario Run, you've got to be online - even if you're not playing the game's online component.

No internet connection? No luck.

It's a massive shame. Nintendo's reasoning is to stomp out piracy, but it stops players from being able to play the game in some of the key places during which mobile gaming is such a massive advantage, like on an air plane with no wi-fi or while commuting on the subway. Or any other number of places where mobile coverage drops out.

What an unnecessarily frustrating way to lock out players.
