Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Review: 5 Ups & 3 Downs

1. It Truly Is The Ultimate Smash Bros. Game (So Far)

It's once again worth reiterating that Smash Ultimate is extremely far from a perfect game, and in fact, there are plenty of things about it that don't register as great or even particularly good.

But at the same time, where it matters the most, the game feels like a summation of everything the series has achieved up to this point, largely thanks to its gigantic roster and dizzying amount of content.

The core gameplay has never felt quite so satisfying, and while the next Smash can certainly improve the online multiplayer and campaign offerings, the basic thrill of beating the snot out of the Wii Fit Trainer really speaks for itself. And the whole "playing with friends thing", too, of course.

Should you buy it?

Absolutely, as long as you temper your expectations about the game doing much to improve the franchise's long-standing weaknesses.
