The Avengers Game We're Glad Was Cancelled

Earth's Mightiest Heroes? Not quite...

Avengers Cancelled THQ

Despite being cancelled nearly a decade ago, new information and footage continues to reveal more about THQ's ill-fated Avengers game. The superhero team up was initially set to launch alongside the original Avengers movie back in 2012, but received the chop in 2011 following the publisher's extensive financial problems.

Fans have received some glimpses at the game (envisioned as a co-op brawler starring Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man and Thor) before, but thanks to a Twitter post by Andrew Borman (courtesy of Obscure Gamers) more gameplay has been revealed.

The highlight reel shows an early look at the project, without proper textures for the environment and some enemies, showing just how the game would actually play. With a focus on mayhem and combos, the main thrust essentially seems to be getting as high a score as possible by taking out as many enemies as you can.

The unique abilities of the heroes are shown as well, which are pretty much what you'd expect (Thor throwing his hammer, Captain American throwing his shield. A lot of throwing).

There may be more to be revealed in the future, but this is our best look at the title yet.
