The Division Vs. Destiny: What's The Best Shooter Of 2016?

4. Ability Variation

The mentality of how both games approach the notion of special abilities is slightly different, but either way they're still a major part of gameplay. For Destiny, each class has three Super Abilities (taking into account the added ones from The Taken King) that are intended to be deployed sporadically, as oppose to The Division's which like Ubisoft's response to Destiny's lack of weapons, are also pretty expansive and tend to replenish every few minutes. Three main trees (Medical, Tech, Security) govern your active abilities in The Division, and within them are five moddable tiers for each entry. So, say you've got the portable turret active, it'll fire on enemies as standard - but you'd then be free to make it shoot a jet of fire, or shocker darts, or just more base damage. This is just one icon on the Tech tree, whereas you could spec as a healer giving radial boosts, opt for deployable cover or med stations - there's a lot more to compliment the strategic side of things once you get your head around it. On the flip-side, you can get things like double-jumps and short teleportation abilities alongside the more one-shot smart bomb-style powers in Destiny, but across the board, The Division aims to let you really make a character feel unique by specialising in certain fields. Winner: The Division
