The Elder Scrolls 6: 11 Past Mistakes Bethesda Can't Repeat

6. Include A Greater Variety Of Environments

Oblivion? A forest. Skyrim? Frosty mountainsides. Such tilesets dominate their respective game's screenshots and even our recollection of journeying through them. And that's a shame, because both games always had way more to offer - Skyrim's underground Dwarven workshops were a highlight, for example, as was the spectral lightshow of Blackreach.

And yet, these are small pockets of variety are in a game dominated by one particular 'look'.

Morrowind was the last time we had a TES more populated by everything from volcanic ash to dense forestation, standard crumbling dungeons and populated townships to boot. It's not to say that Oblivion and Skyrim didn't have anything to offer, but it is true that the majority of main quests and moment-to-moment travel will see you breathing in a lot of similar-looking assets.

For a "next generation" Elder Scrolls built from the ground up to take advantage of systems like the PS4/PS4 Pro and Xbox One (S/X), a world that showcases a greater variety of environments, Horizon Zero Dawn-style, is a must.
